(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – There was a fatal shooting overnight in Hartford that involved a city police officer.
They say it started just before five a.m. when the Shot Spotter system detected shots in the area of Winchester Street.
Hartford Police Lieutenant Brian Foley, commander of the Major Crimes Division, says officers pulled a vehicle over at that point.
Foley says the victim fled on foot and there was an exchange of gunfire.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer was taken to a local hospital for standard evaluation.
His name has not been released.
As per standard protocol, Foley says the State Police and the Hartford State’s Attorney’s office will be lead agencies in the investigation.
