Layoffs Looming At Foxwoods
MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) – A union for table game dealers at the Foxwoods Resort Casino says the management is eliminating 125 jobs.
Local 2121 of the United Auto Workers says Foxwoods informed them Wednesday of plans to cut 120 full-time dealers and five assistant floor supervisors.
Union President Billy Shea says volunteers will be sought first and the casino wants the layoffs completed by March 1.
Foxwoods is owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and employs about 8,000 people.
It has been struggling to reverse a decline in gambling revenue blamed on the weak recovery of the U.S. economy and growing competition in neighboring states.
Foxwoods spokeswoman Dale Wolbrink declined to comment on the layoffs. She said Thursday it is the casino’s policy not to discuss matters involving employees.
