STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ University of Connecticut President Susan Herbst is expressing support for a White House initiative to fight sexual assault on college campuses.

Herbst on Wednesday said she shares President Barack Obama’s commitment to combatting all forms of sexual violence.

Obama has launched a task force to come up with recommendations for colleges to prevent and respond to the crime, increase public awareness of each school’s track record and enhance coordination among federal agencies to hold schools accountable if they don’t confront the problem.

Several UConn students and recent graduates asked the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights to conduct a federal investigation of the university in October. The women allege the school failed to protect them and mishandled their complaints of sexual assaults.
