Hamden Engineering School Filming Their Way to Meet Obama
HAMDEN, CT (CBS Connecticut)_ Local students at ESUMS (Engineering and Science University Magnet School) have entered a national competition that gives them the opportunity to potentially meet the President of the United States.
Students of the award winning DM3 (Digital Media and Movie Making) class at ESUMS have formed five production teams to write, direct and produce their own videos for competitions and film festivals within the United States. The students recently produced videos for the Connecticut Student Film Festival, which will debut in late April of 2014, and have now entered a competition that could result in them meeting President Obama.
“The students are hungry for challenges and they want to win,” said Leon Tynes, the teacher and mentor of the DM3 students. “They push themselves and have created things that have never been seen before, even when given the craziest of working conditions.”
The students at ESUMS are hard at work, producing 3 minute short films that integrate technology and education for the national competition.
“But we don’t just want to do things locally or within the state of Connecticut, we want to branch out and get as many opportunities as possible and meeting President Barack Obama is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Nina Filippone, a director in the Running Wire production team.
