LITCHFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ The principal of Litchfield High School has been placed on paid administrative leave after being arrested on a drunken driving charge last weekend.
Superintendent of Schools Deborah Wheeler made the announcement Wednesday at a school board meeting. She said Principal Kristen Della Volpe will remain on leave pending an investigation of the arrest.
The 44-year-old principal was arrested by Torrington police Saturday. Police said they responded to a report of an erratic driver and found a vehicle matching the description at a fast food restaurant’s drive-through. Authorities say Della Volpe was the driver and she failed a field sobriety test.
Della Volpe is in her sixth year as principal. She didn’t immediately return a phone message Thursday, and it’s not clear if she has a lawyer.
