Hartford Reports Drop In Crime

(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Hartford police have released preliminary numbers regarding crime last year in the capital city.

They say they improved on the overall numbers from 2012.

Homicides, however, were up one in 2013 from 2012 with 23.

Overall, so-called Part 1 crimes–robberies, rapes, burglaries, assaults, auto thefts and larcenies–were down seven-percent.

In addition, police officials say the number of shootings was down 5.7% last year over 2012 and 40% from 2009.

The classification of sexual assaults was broadened last year, which police say led to an increase of 59% but down four-percent from 2009.

Robberies and burglaries were also down.

Juvenile arrests were down 20%.
