
New UConn head football coach Bob Diaco has announced his final coaching staff. Diaco, whose selection was announced last month has chosen eight new assistant coaches, and is retaining one from the previous staff.
The new Associate Head Coach and Quarterbacks Coach, Don Patterson, comes to UConn after three seasons as Quarterbacks Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Buffalo. A 1973 Army grad, Patterson spent 18 years on the staff of Coach Hayden Fry at Iowa.
The new Offensive Coordinator will be Mike Cummings, who has held the same position at Central Michigan for four seasons. He will also work with the team’s tight ends.
Anthony Poindexter, who has been on the coaching staff at Virginia for ten years in various position, is the new Defensive Coordinator, with responsibility for safeties.
Wayne Lineburg comes to Storrs after four years at Richmond, including one year as Interim Head Coach. He will be Special Teams Coordinator, and will work with wide receivers.
Former New England Patriot Vincent Brown, a three-time All-Pro, who will be the new Linebackers Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator, has been a defensive coach at Virginia for four years.
34-year-coaching veteran Kevin Wolthausen, most recently Special Teams coach at Florida International, has been named Recruiting Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach.
The one current UConn coaching staff member who is staying with the program is Mike Foley. He’ll continue his work with the offensive line.
Ernest Jones moves from Notre Dame to UConn with Diaco. He’ll be Running Backs Coach and will have responsibility for player engagement.
Another addition from Notre Dame is Josh Reardon, a graduate assistant with the Irish for the past two seasons. At UConn he will coach cornerbacks and serve as Co-Special Teams Coordinator.
