Hartford, CT. (CBS Connecticut) – We set a record temperature at Bradley International Airport.

Meterologist Sam Sampieri says the temperature dipped to a teeth-chattering minus-9 degrees this morning.

That took care of the old record of minus-7 set in 1981.

Many cities and towns statewide woke up to temperatures at or below zero.

The record cold was precisely what had Governor Dannel Malloy concerned.

The governor, in a storm briefing on Friday, indicated that shelters statewide were running at or more than capacity.

Hartford police officers kept a sharp eye out for homeless citizens during their shifts overnight Friday to make sure those who needed shelter received it.
