rest in peace “big east conference,” one a titan of the college sports world…now forever remaining as a patchwork conference with a handful of schools…happy jonathon the husky — the dog with the tongue sticking out…while you looked more like the logo for on-campus pit stop “the thirsty dog” you were beloved and will be forever missed…paul pasqualoni — how can we forget your tenure as uconn football coach…actually, i think most fans will say — fairly easily…the hope for another team to beat the uconn women…for maybe a while…last year they won the title as an underdog…they’ll be the favorite this year and the couple to come…the whale — back to the wolf pack — and once again, all that green memorbilia that was starting to go out of style because it was actually relevant becomes fashionable again…mariano rivera is out of baseball, bringing to end the reign of the greatest player at his position that maybe ever lived…andy pettitte followed mo out the door…and maybe so did the yankees world series hopes for a little while…matt harvey’s right elbow…his old one torn apart, his new one put back together after tommy john surgery as he prepares to get back on the mound and lead the mets from obscruity…in boston — we said goodbye to hygiene…the beards popularized by duck dynasty quickly caught on with the brutes playing for the red sox and after they won the world series, expect facial hair to become the norm at fenway…we said goodbye to the knicks and nets playing good basketball — remember last year when they were good — that seems like such a long time ago…and speaking of saying goodbye — doc rivers, paul pierce, kevin garnett, all left the celtics, ushering in a new era that expects to see some “growing pains…”looks like we’re surprisingly not saying goodbye to the jet’s rex ryan and the giants tom coughlin, despite continued struggles for both franchises….the patriots said see ya to aaron hernandez, they’re the two-seed in the afc playoffs…the bruins lost the cup just missed out on the cup, and waved it goodbye as it boarded a plane to chicago…most importantly, we said goodbye to 2013, hello 2014, which has some great things in store, especially in sports…the olympics in sochi…the world cup in brazil…and the super bowl in new york city? well the first two should be pretty good at least…the super bowl, in new york, in february…with a comment on the sports world…i’m michael guerrera
