First Night Hartford is marking its 25th year as a safe, alcohol-free,  family-friendly way to ring in the New Year.

Activities are planned from 2:00 p.m.  until midnight, at venues around town, including a stage at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch,  improvisational comedy at Central Baptist Church, a tour of Main Street architecture, face-painting at the Old State House, music, comedy and magic.  The Bushnell Park ice skating rink will be open,  and two fireworks displays are planned in the park,  one at 6:00 p.m. and one at midnight.

Admission to all events is with a wristband, at a cost of $12 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.  Parking will be free on-street, while a number of city parking lots will offer discounted rates between $2  and $5.
