About 300 homes were without water service today in Berlin.
Kensington Fire District worker Dave Potanka says water was coming up from a broken main, and gushing out of a hole in the ground, on the side of the Chamberlain Highway at Norton Road.
“It looked like the Colorado River going down the Chamberlain Highway,” Potanka said. “It was boiling up out of there pretty heavily, and flowing both ways. It happened to be at the top of a crest, so we have water flowing both directions, down one side of the Chamberlain Highway.”
The side of the road was damaged, but the water did not get into any buildings.
One side of the road was closed. Traffic was getting by in alternating directions
Water service is expected to be restored by dinner time.
