New Britain resident Fernando Cruz is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, and threatening.
Police say Cruz was behind the wheel of a van near the intersection of Washington Street and Lafayette Street in the city December 5, when he drove up to a woman, and pulled out a knife.
The 28-year-old allegedly threatened to stab her, unless she got in the van. She complied. She was driven elsewhere and sexually assaulted.
The victim told police she was later dropped of in the same area where she was taken.
Police say the victim gave them a detailed description of the van, including the registration tag, and a description of the driver.
Police say DNA comparison linked Cruz to the crime.
The victim’s name was not released.
Cruz was arrested Monday.
