SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) _ A Connecticut police officer has been charged in Massachusetts with driving drunk with a child in his vehicle.

Massachusetts State Police say 45-year-old Thomas Chagnon of Somers, Conn., was pulled over on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Auburn just after midnight Sunday.

Chagnon, an Enfield, Conn., patrolman, faces a number of charges including drunken driving, child endangerment, speeding, negligent operation, and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Police did not release the age of the child in the car.

Enfield Deputy Chief Gary Collins says the department is investigating.

It is not clear if Chagnon has a lawyer.
