Hartford’s Second Homicide In 24 Hours, 23rd For Year
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut/AP) – Police have arrested a woman suspected of strangling her boyfriend in a condominium marking the city’s 23rd homicide of 2013. This is also Hartford’s second homicide in less than 24 hours, following the shooting death of a man on Adelaide Street Friday night.
Lt. Brian Foley, commander of the police major crimes division, says 24-year-old Katherine Santiago called 911 at about 1 p.m. Saturday, claiming that she had a domestic violence incident with her boyfriend. Officers who arrived at the Wethersfield Avenue home found 27-year-old Marcos DeJesus dead at the scene.
Foley says detectives believe the incident was a domestic violence related homicide and that the woman is cooperating.
Foley says investigators have evidence DeJesus was strangled, but the medical examiner will formally determine the manner and cause of death.
Foley police are working with the Connecticut state attorney’s office to determine what charges should be filed against the Santiago, who has 7 previous arrests..
On Friday night, police were called to Adelaide Street after 23 year old Angel Vasquez was shot once in the head, according to authorities. There is no word on a suspect in this incident.
Police continue to investigate both homicides.
