University President Steven Kaplan said Wednesday officials learned she is homeless in meetings where they discussed how they could recognize her help. He said the woman wants to remain anonymous.

William Dong was arrested during the Dec. 3 scare that locked down the West Haven campus for several hours. Authorities say the 22-year-old man was carrying two loaded handguns on campus and had a Bushmaster assault rifle and bullets in his car parked near campus.

Dong’s attorney says his client is expected to plead not guilty to weapons charges.

Police have said they aren’t sure why Dong had the guns.
