New Haven Declares Snow Emergency

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ New Haven’s mayor had declared a snow emergency and a parking ban in the city ahead of a winter storm that is expected to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain to Connecticut.

Mayor John DeStefano Jr. says the measure will help to clear the streets for snow removal.

The parking ban will be in effect for downtown New Haven from 2 a.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. that day. The ban covers the area bounded Howe Street, Tower Parkway, Grove Street, State Street and North Frontage Road.

The mayor says those affected will find free overnight parking on from Saturday night through Sunday morning at Granite Square Garage, located on State Street, and Temple Street Garage, found on Temple Street.

The storm is expected to dump up to a foot of snow in southern New England.
