Radio Station Off Air After U of Bridgeport Fire

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A fire on the roof of the student center at the University of Bridgeport has knocked a radio station off the air.

WPKN-FM tweeted Wednesday night it expected to be back on the air Thursday morning. The community radio station has been serving Bridgeport and Long Island since 1963.

Several fire trucks rolled arrived at the campus at about 6 p.m. Wednesday for a report of heavy smoke on the roof of the John J. Cox Student Center.

Fire Department Spokesman William Kaempffer told the Connecticut Post that investigators were still trying to determine the cause. He said construction crews were working on the roof earlier in the day.
