New Haven Man Charged In Accidental Shooting Death

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ An 18-year-old New Haven man has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of his sister’s boyfriend.

The New Haven Register reports ( ) Shunravion Jackson says he forgot he had the gun in his hand when he shot 23-year-old Shamar Willett while the two men horsed around Saturday.

Assistant Police Chief Archie Generoso says the police investigation has found that the shooting was not intentional.

Police say Jackson changed his story at least three times. Authorities say he first said he saw Willett on the couch with a gunshot wound, that he was in the apartment when he heard a gunshot and that he and Willet were playing around in the kitchen and he picked up a gun.

Willet went to give a bear hug to Jackson who accidently squeezed the trigger.
