Waterbury Man Pleads Guilty To Embezzling From National Guard

A Waterbury man has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly 90-thousand dollars from the Connecticut National Guard.  Prosecutors say 36-year-old Derek Jackson waived indictment and pleaded guilty in Hartford Federal Court.

Acting U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly says court documents show that, from 2004 through 2010, Jackson arranged to have supplemental, unauthorized National Guard payments deposited to his bank account.  He admitted sharing some of the money with the payroll supervisor until the supervisor’s death in 2010,  when the scheme ended.  He could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison at his sentencing in February.
