Police have charged a Canaan woman after authorities say she stabbed her boyfriend inside a Main Street residence in Winsted.

Amanda Benson, 29, has been charged with First Degree Assault and Second Degree Breach of Peace after she stabbed Joshua Layfulde, 36, of Winsted once in the chest. The incident happened on Monday evening.

Layfulde had been listed in critical but stable condition at Hartford Hospital.

Benson is due in Bantam Superior Court in December.
