Its About Family, Not Sales.
Nice. This past Thanksgiving Day unfortunately to many people could not fight the urge to leave their families and hit the department stores for gimmick sales. In Rialto ,Calif. the brawls started a little earlier than usual on Thanksgiving Day, at 6:45 p.m. as lines formed three individuals duked it out and injured a police officer trying to break it up. Two were arrested for assault and of course shopping went on. ['Black Friday' Brawl: Officer Injured at California Walmart on Thanksgiving]. In New Jersey an officer was shot, in Chicago another brawl , etc. nice. Last Tuesday I encouraged listeners not to go to the stores on Thanksgiving Day for the magical , silly sales and hopefully a lot of people agreed. The only way to convince these greedy big stores to stay closed is by not showing up, legislation will not work and they shouldn’t be involved. On Thanksgiving I was enjoying an absolutely wonderful day, 24 people, numerous families and generations banded together for a day of thanksgiving, joy and tradition, unfortunately one of our 21 year old family members had to depart at 3:15, before dinner to work his shift from 4:00 till 1:00AM. at WalMart . So these shoppers couldn’t wait to get in line and chase these magical sales? I applaud the big stores that let their employees have the day off, we will all have plenty of time to shop, but let’s not let them infringe on our family tradition. Hopefully enough people stayed home Thanksgiving night so that these stores will rethink their marketing for next year, but I doubt it, I bet it will get worse. Traditions and family time, are not politically correct and they might even be a little corny, so call me corny.
