West Hartford’s Beth Bye has been chosen as the state senate chair of the powerful Appropriations Committee in the General Assembly.

Democratic State Senate President Don Williams made the announcement Wednesday.

Bye was chosen to take over for the departing state Senator Toni Harp, who was elected mayor of New Haven earlier this month.

In a statement, Willilams says Bye brings “passion and incredible work ethic” to her new position.

Bye says Harp leaves behind a great legacy and she is excited to meet the challenge.

The General Assembly reconvenes in February.
