Governor Dannel Malloy has tapped the interim commissioner for the state Department of Correction for the job on a permanent basis.
James Dzurenda has been serving on an interim basis since the April retirement of former commissioner Leo Arone.
Dzurenda began his career with DOC in 1987 as a correction officer at the Brigeport Correctional Center.
He says he’s “humbled” by the appointment and will continue to improve public safety while providing correction staff and offenders a safe environment.
Malloy calls Dzurenda an invaluable asset to the department and says his experience will go a long way in maintaining safety in facilities statewide.
Dzurenda’s must be confirmed by the General Assembly.
