Fairfield Man Arrested After Fears He Would Harm Children

A Fairfield man has been arrested of said he  had thought for years of harming  children at  one of the elementary schools in town.Police say  44 year old Joseph Russo called them last month and   told  them he  planned to carry out  actions and wanted immediate help so he would not  act.During the initial  interview by  a  police officer, it was determined Russo posed a  significant and potential danger to others.

Russo   was taken to Saint Vincent’s Medical center  in Bridgeport for evaluation October 27th. He remained in protective custody there  during the investigation and  posed no direct threat to the public.

Upon his release Wednesday,Russo was   charged with Threatening in the First Degree and  Threatening a Act of Terrorism.

Russo is being held in lieu of $75,000  bond.

Fairfield Police say during the investigation  they have maintained an open dialogue with the Fairfield School System and say that will continue.
