Police: Friend Killed In ‘Senseless’ Gun Play
WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — Police say gun play between two friends has left one of the men dead.
Dow Kling was fatally shot in the chest in a Waterbury apartment on Sunday.
Shawn French has been charged with first-degree manslaughter and first-degree reckless endangerment. Waterbury Deputy Chief Chris Corbett called the shooting death senseless and preventable.
Police said the two 22-year-old men were taking turns pointing a gun at each other and pulling the trigger. Both men thought they were shooting blanks.
The arrest warrant says French initially lied to police, saying he saw a man running from the home.
French said in Waterbury Superior Court on Monday he has no intention of owning a gun again.
He was released on $25,000 bond. It was not known Tuesday if he’s represented by a lawyer.
