Meriden Police have released the names of two children killed when their family’s vehicle was hit from the rear Sunday morning. Police say five-year-old Tatiana Cruz and eight-year-old Lorenzo Cruz were in the back seat of the Subaru Legacy, at a traffic light, when the vehicle was hit. A third child, 12-year-old Alejandro Schroder, was critically hurt and hospitalized in intensive care. Michael Cruz and Gina Schroder were both treated for injuries in the accident.
The driver of the GMC Denali SUV which hit the family, identified as 29-year-old Israel Gonzalez of Meriden, was charged with evading responsibility, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without a license and held in lieu of a million dollars bond for arraignment. Police expect to file additional charges in the case.
