HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The top U.S. union official is joining Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to highlight two jobs programs for veterans and the unemployed.
At a news conference scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Friday in Hartford, Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, national AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and other state and local officials will draw attention to a program helping returning U.S. veterans find jobs with local police and fire departments.
Another program, a talent matching system, targets job opportunities to unemployed people based on job experience and qualifications.
The Democratic governor also is scheduled to speak Friday night at the retirement dinner of former Connecticut AFL-CIO President John Olsen. The ex-union chief had been chairman of the state Democratic Party.
