NORWALK, Conn. (AP) _ A former assistant town clerk in Norwalk has been arrested on charges she stole $3,000 from the city since 2010.

Deborah Troy was arrested on Wednesday on a larceny count, which carries a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000 if convicted. She was released on a promise to appear in court.

Her lawyer, Eugene Zingaro, told The Hour of Norwalk that she insists she is innocent and looks forward to clearing her name.

The 42-year-old Troy, a city employee since 2003, was fired in June after an investigation found she misappropriated money in the town clerk’s office. The Hearst Connecticut Media Group reports that last summer Troy blamed “screwed-up procedures” in the town clerk’s office.
