Farmington Police have arrested a convicted felon after  receiving a report of a man  firing a handgun  in the front yard of his home, then going back inside.

Numerous officers responded to 21 Junior Road and set up a perimeter and a regional SWAT team was put on standby.Farmington Police  are familiar with the homeowner,41 year old  Bruce Silvernail.

Police spoke with him  twice via  telephone , but he hung up  both times  after saying he was coming out the front door.Police say he did not come out when told to do so.

According to police, Silvernail tied to escape out the back door of the home , but was met  by  police officers  and was taken into custody at gunpoint without  further incident.

A cursory search of the home  revealed  some illegal narcotic and weapon activity.

Animal Control seized a  large Pit Bull from  the residence.Silvernail is being held on numerous charges.

There is also an active arrest  warrant for Silvernail in Hartford  for Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell.
