Judge Sends Suspect To Trial On Beating Charges

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A suspect accused of beating two men with a piece of exhaust pipe at a South Windsor auto repair shop is headed for trial after a Superior Court judge said his conduct showed he was rejecting a plea deal.

Nathaniel O. Chambers was supposed to accept or reject a plea-bargain offer in Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday.

The Journal Inquirer reports (http://bit.ly/19RLBdM ) that the 28-year-old Chambers instead went limp and draped himself over the edge of the defense table wailing, grunting and making other noises.

The judge warned Chambers to stop talking or risk waiving his right to appear in court.

The marshals removed Chambers from the courtroom. Alexander said she interpreted what she called his “malingering conduct” as rejection of a plea offer.
