Lawmakers Want Hearings On UConn Policies On Sex Assaults
Republican legislative leaders are calling for hearings to review the University of Connecticut’s policies on preventing sexual assaults on campus.
House Republican Leader Larry Cafero and Senate GOP Leader John McKinney say those hearings would also review UConn’s policies when it comes to victims’ support and punishing perpetrators.
The lawmakers have sent a letter to the chairs and ranking members of both the legislature’s Higher Education and Public Safety and Security Committees.
The calls comes in wake of seven current and former UConn students this week filing a Title IX complaint against the university, charging that their sexual assault claims were more or less brushed aside.
Cafero and McKinney want to hear from from UConn officials during a joint hearing.
They also say they want to look into whether tougher laws are needed and whether state police should conduct independent investigations.
