Hartford Man Hit On Scooter Dies

On Tuesday at 9:12 a.m. officers were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident.

A Ford F250 pulling a landscaping trailer hit a scooter with a 76-year-old male operator at the intersection of Arnold Street and Hillside Avenue. The truck was traveling East on Arnold Street and the scooter was going north on Hillside Avenue.

The scooter operator, Jesus Torres-Colon, 76, of Hartford, was in critical at Hartford Hospital with life threatening injuries. However, Wednesday, he succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced dead.

As a result, detectives are working with the Connecticut States Attorney’s Office to apply for an amended charge. The operator of the pickup truck, Edwin Quijada-Rivera, 25 of Hartford, has already been charged with operating without a license, failure to renew/registration and a stop sign violation. He was held on a $20,000 bond.

Investigators believe that Quijada-Rivera did stop at the stop sign, however, he failed to yield right of way when he did not see the scooter. Quijada-Rivera is not a US citizen and his status is still pending while I.C.E. investigates.
