HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ In a spirit of cooperation, Connecticut state employees and management have been working to identify ways state government can save money.
Patrice Peterson, president of the CSEA/SEIU, says committees made up of labor and management have been reviewing savings ideas for 10 state agencies.
She says getting labor and management to work with one another is a slow process, but the work is moving toward becoming a permanent avenue for streamlining government operations.
The initiative is the result of the 2011 labor agreement, expected to generate $180 million to balance last fiscal year’s state budget.
State officials say it is working. But Senate Minority Leader John McKinney and other Republicans have their doubts.
The agreement is expected to be an issue in next year’s gubernatorial race.
