Police received a call around 7pm Saturday and say 39-year-old Derrick Kulesa of Bristol walked into the Price Chopper on Farmington Avenue, grabbed items of store shelves, and returned the items in exchange for a store gift card.

The suspect knocked down a security guard and fled the store with the gift card. The store manager and the security guard were able to catch the suspect and escorted him back to the store.

Police say Kulesa escalated the incident to a physical confrontation, upping the charge from larceny to robbery, but no one was injured. Kulesa is charged with third degree robbery and sixth degree larceny. We was held on $15,000 bond and is due in Bristol Superior Court.
