State Takeover of Tennis Tournament Approved

As expected, the Capitol Region Development Authority Thursday approved a plan to have the  state purchase the rights to the New Haven Open Tennis Tournament.

The state became involved after  it appeared the tournament would be moved to Winston-Salem , North  Carolina. But officials there could not get the men’s tennis tour to agree to scheduling so both  the men’s and women’s tournaments could be held there.

The tournament has been held in New Haven for 16 years, but in recent years has seen a decline in attendance.
