HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Defense lawyers are set to present their case for East Haven police officers accused of civil rights violations against Latinos.

The 16th day of a trial in U.S. District Court in Hartford is set to begin Tuesday after a Columbus Day break.

Prosecutors on Friday ended the presentation of their case against police officers David Cari and Dennis Spaulding. The two officers were arrested in January 2012 and accused of civil rights abuses and face charges including conspiracy to violate civil rights.

If convicted, both could serve up to 20 years in prison.

The New Haven Register reports that defense lawyers plan to call Sgt. Anthony Rybaruk as a witness. He testified for prosecutors on Oct. 1, describing how a traffic stop by Spaulding resulted in the arrests of four Latino men.
