Political leadership is about setting priorities, whether it is here in Connecticut or in Washington D.C.. President Obama has made it clear “Obamacare” is his main , and probably only priority. It was quite sad to see yesterday that the government was unwilling to pay the death benefits to the families of four fallen soldiers killed in Afganistan , they were killed in a special operations mission… but on the same day the public schools in Westport received a $963,000 grant to buy kayaks, roller blades and paddle boats for the schools ? Here in Connecticut the Malloy Supremacy pretty much throws taxpayers dollars at anything that moves ; billionaires, large corporations, mice laboratories, parking garages, magic buses, and now tennis? It is hard to imagine in this economic downturn that so many tax dollars can be fiddled away. One of my favorites is still the Hartford parking garage, the state [ you and me] paid $23 million to buy a parking garage from the city of Hartford that was appraised at $9 million, and then will pay an additional $3.2 million to “lease” the land, if you own the garage why would you have to lease the land ? Oh, and why does the state even need to own a parking garage, are we going into the parking business ? Something doesn’t sound right . Now the Supremacy is getting us in the tennis business for $618,000 , not bad for a state that continues to lose jobs and companies on a daily basis, not to mention that we were the only state in the country to have negative economic growth for two years in a row. Leadership is about priorities, you decide.
