Weist: Williams Cannot Return Until Criminal Charges Are Resolved

VERNON, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut coach T.J. Weist says running back Joe Williams won’t be allowed to return to the Huskies until criminal charges against him are resolved.

That is not expected to happen until at least November.

The sophomore was in Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday. His lawyer, Robert Britt, requested and received a continuance until Nov. 5, saying he needed to brief Williams’ family on the status of the case.

Williams has been suspended since Aug. 9, after he was charged with larceny, theft of a credit card, and illegal use of a credit card. Police say the arrest stemmed from the theft of $60 and a credit card from a wallet in April.

Williams was expected to see playing time this fall as a backup to starting tailback Lyle McCombs.
