NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) _ The middle school and high school in Newtown are re-opened after being briefly locked down.
School officials said the lockdown Monday morning was a precaution taken on the advice of police. They said all students are safe.
State police said they sent officers to support Newtown police, but they could not say what prompted the concern. A Newtown police dispatcher said nobody was available to provide information.
WVIT-TV reported that police responded to reports of a barricaded man at a nearby house, and the incident is over.
A gunman killed 20 children and six women at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14.
