Branford Man Charged In DUI Crash That Killed His Wife

Branford police have arrested a man in connection with a drunk driving crash this summer that left his wife dead.

Authorities are charging 31-year-old Vincent Mauro with second degree manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to drive right.

They say Mauro was traveling at a high rate of speed the night of August 18 when he veered off Bushy Plains Road and struck a large tree.

The accident killed his wife, 28-year-old Megan McAuliffe.

Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran says Mauro’s “deliberate acts” were a significant cause in McAuliffe’s death.

According to investigators, Mauro’s blood alcohol level that night was .181, more than twice the legal limit in Connecticut.

He’s being held on $200,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with any further information is asked to contact Branford Police.
