Traffic Signals Crash To The Ground In Branford, Nearly Hits Vehicle

The traffic lights in a large intersection in Branford came crashing down today, narrowly missing a vehicle. The driver was shaken up, but unhurt.

Police Captain Jeffrey Morgan says the area is under construction in connection with an Amtrak bridge project.

“The contractors were adjusting and realigning the overhead control signals at the intersection of Route 1 and Short Beach Road, when there was a failure in the cabling system that suspends the overhead control signals. They all fell to the ground,” Morgan said.

Traffic is limited on Short Beach Road.

Route 1 will be backed up in the area through the afternoon rush.
