The Republicans in Washington are now out on a plank trying to figure out how to save face and get back into their own life boat. Here’s the main problem, they have drawn the line in the sand , caused a partial shutdown of the government, and Obamacare is alive and well. But the bigger issue they didn’t count on is that the executive branch of government now can decide which agencies and parks to close. Yes it’s true the Congress passes laws and budgets but it’s the executive branch [ the President] that can pick and choose what political dynamics to use for the partial shutdown. So, what you are seeing is the executive branch closing Vets memorials, the D-Day cemetery, sports at West Point, maybe cancellation of the Navy -Air Force game , etc… My point is the executive branch now decides how to turn the heat up on the Republicans in Congress. Meanwhile the Republican controlled House of Representatives each day passes bills to keep parks open, the Vets Administration, etc. but those bills are going nowhere, they created this shutdown and now they are not in position to dictate what stays open and closes, they choose to pull the trigger and now they are stuck. I am sure there a lot of Republicans in the House wondering what to do now ? Last night there was a meeting at the White House, I said on the show yesterday unfortunately that was going nowhere, the Republicans cannot let the President end the shutdown, they somehow need to save face and ”get something in return ” for voting to reopen government, it will not be defunding Obamacare, but what will it be ? Can the Republicans tough it out till Oct. 17th the debt ceiling deadline ? This will end as a lose-lose for the Republicans in Congress, at some point they will vote to reopen government, the conservatives across the country will be mad they gave in, Obamacare will be untouched, there will be some permanent scars and hard feelings within the Republicans in the Congress and they will get blamed for government disruption. A lot of us may be glad this all happened , but I never understood the long term strategy for Republicans, bottom line… I don’t think we can change the minds of these folks in Congress time for all of them to go….we need term limits now more than ever!!
