DRS Commisioner Says Department May Review Intern Tax Record Access

State revenue services Commissioner Kevin Sullivan says the department may take a look at whether or not it’s appropriate for interns to have access to sensitive tax information.

This comes on the heels of word this week of the arrest of an intern Sullivan says was browsing taxpayer records.

He says more often than not, there is no malicious intent; that perhaps a person is looking up information for a family member or friend.  Regardless, Sullivan says it is illegal.
Brian Frascarelli faces charges of unauthorized inspection of tax return information.

Sullivan says interns go through a normal vetting process and background check.

And while it doesn’t appear as if anyone’s identity was compromised, the commissioner says the department will provide free data security protections to those affected.
