Police Seize Guns Stored Unsecured In Child’s Room

Hartford police have arrested a firefighter after finding a large supply of weapons unsecured in his home, including in the bedroom of a seven-year-old.

Police called to the Canaan Street home of 43-year-old Michael Patterson on a report of a domestic incident learned in the course of the investigation that he had numerous registered firearms.  They found 26 firearms, unsecured, many on a bed in the bedroom where the child slept.  A large supply of ammunition was also found in the room.  Three other weapons were were found in a gun locker in the basement.

All the firearms and ammunition were seized as evidence because the seven-year-old and a 16-year-old live in the home.

Patterson was charged with breach of peace,  threatening,  and 29 counts of risk of injury to a child.
