Mushroom Grower To Seek Medical Marijuana License

WATERTOWN, Conn. (AP) _ A mushroom grower is the second medical marijuana producer seeking a license in Watertown.

The Republican-American reports (http://bit.ly/16TgmKR ) that Gregg Wershoven, owner of Mountaintop Mushrooms in Waterbury, has a lease agreement with the owners of a manufacturing facility to produce medical marijuana.

Wershoven says he plans to plant marijuana cuttings in an area of his basement mushroom farm, then transfer them to a larger growing space. He said he was looking at another building on the Watertown line as an expansion possibility.

The state Department of Consumer Protection is seeking applications for licenses for marijuana producers and dispensaries. The agency anticipates granting three producer licenses and three to five dispensary licenses.
