State environmental officials had to euthanize a moose that turned up this morning in new britain.
Dwayne Gardner, a spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, says the animal was a male about two-to-three-years old, and weighing about 500 pounds.
Gardner says the animal had crossed the highway at least three times before conservation police arrived on scene.
He says moose are prevalent this time of year because it’s their mating season.
Gardner says the department is urging motorists to use caution when driving, particularly around wooded areas.
