Trial To Begin In 1984 Murder

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) _ A 70-year-old man is about to go on trial on murder charges, accused of fatally beating his wife 29 years ago.

The News-Times reports that John Heath, who is in poor health and confined to a wheelchair, is accused of killing Elizabeth Heath in 1984, shoving her body into a bag and concealing it beneath a former dairy barn.

Her remains were discovered in 2010 during renovations by the new owner and his son.

Heath was arrested nearly two years after his wife’s body was found and has since been held on $1 million bond.

Heath says he’s not guilty. He reported his wife missing to Newtown police three days after he said he woke up and found her gone.

Trial is set to begin Wednesday in Danbury Superior Court.
