HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Local officials are being briefed on Connecticut’s new medical marijuana program and the recently approved state regulations.

William Rubenstein, commissioner of the state’s Department of Consumer Protection, was scheduled to host an informational session on Thursday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. Among the various issues he’s expected to discuss is the role cities and towns will play in the development of the new medical marijuana industry in Connecticut.

Mayors and first selectmen, local zoning officials and municipal police officers are expected to be among those on hand for the presentation.

A legislative committee recently approved wide-ranging regulations on producers and dispensary facilities. The Department of Consumer Protection is now seeking applications for marijuana producer and dispensary licenses. It anticipates granting three producer licenses and three-to-five dispensary licenses.
