Fights, Shootings Follow New Haven Event

A hip-hop event hosted by a New Haven nightclub was followed by up to four altercations and the wounding of two men by gunshots early Saturday.

New Haven police say the two men– 24-year-old Timothy Charles of Hamden and 21-year-old Kirt Swan of New Haven were shot following an altercation as nightclubs emptied out around 2:15 a.m. Charles was reportedly shot in the hand and Swan was shot in the upper back. Both men were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say up to four fights broke out following the event at Pulse Nightclub on Chapel Street. They say Charles and Swan were both patrons of Pulse Nightclub prior to the shootings.

New Haven detectives are investigating the shootings and the fights leading up to them. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators by calling 203-946-6304. Calls may be made anonymously.
