NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Southern Connecticut State University says it has received the largest private gift in its 120-year history.
The university says the seven-figure gift will expand student research opportunities in the sciences.
University President Mary Papazian is planning to provide details of the gift at a news conference Monday afternoon.
The school says the gift is nearly three times bigger than the previous largest donation.
The university in New Haven enrolls more than 11,000 students. It is planning a groundbreaking ceremony later this month for a new academic and laboratory science building.
